Maria Menounos' Tips on How to Heal Burnout

Burnout can seem like a huge obstacle that no one else seems to understand. Maria shares how she overcomes burnout by committing to self-care and practicing habits that help her thrive every day. She also gives practical advice for how you can do the same thing in your own life. Here are her tips to heal burnout.

How to Heal Burnout

What is burnout?

Before we can heal it, we need to understand what burnout is and how to know if we’re feeling it. Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and physical exhaustion caused by stress and long-term strain.Burnout symptoms include: feeling irritable or anxious internally or externally; losing interest in your work or hobbies; having trouble sleeping; feeling overwhelmed by tasks that once seemed manageable; experiencing depression or anxiety about getting through the day—or even living at all—without succumbing to burnout again. Recognizing these signs of burnout will help you take steps toward healing from it as soon as possible. So what does Maria do when she’s feeling burnout creeping in?

Meditate

Meditation is a powerful tool that can help you deal with burnout, especially if you're prone to feeling stressed and overwhelmed. It's a great way to take a break from the stress of everyday life and become more present in your life. Meditation will also help you be aware of your emotions, which is great when it comes to dealing with negative emotions like anger or sadness. And finally, meditation can help you sleep better! There are many different techniques out there for meditation. Yoga Nidra is one of Maria’s favorite ways to press pause on the world and focus on herself. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that helps you relax, unwind and reset. It can also help you sleep better, reduce stress, and find your center. It's one of the most effective ways to manage burnout symptoms like anxiety and fatigue—and all it takes is a few minutes each day! For more of Maria’s favorite meditations, check it out here!

Take a break from technology

Give yourself a break from technology. That means putting your phone away and taking a walk—or even just taking some time for yourself. If you're feeling too much stress from work, going outside and getting some fresh air can be a relief. Or if you're more prone to being indoors, try reading a book or doing something creative (like painting or photography). If you haven't done something in a while that makes you truly happy, find out what that is and do that instead!

Get your body moving

It's essential to get your body moving when you're feeling burned out. Exercise is a great way to relieve stress, and it can also help combat depression and anxiety. It's also good for your heart and lungs, so it'll help keep you healthy overall. You don't need to join a gym or go on an expensive trip to exercise—especially if you're just starting. Try walking outside or taking the stairs instead of the elevator at work; use your lunch break or commute time productively with small exercises like pushups or squats; take breaks from sitting by taking walks around the building or parking lot during breaks (if possible). Alternatively, try doing yoga at home so that nothing gets in the way of getting back into some regular exercise habits!

Do what fills your cup

These are the things that energize you and make you feel good about yourself. Everyone needs something different when they are feeling burnt out. For some going on a hike might fill their cup and sparks their joy, for others that could be the last thing they want to do. Know yourself and what things will bring you peace. When we are feeling empty and depleted, it’s easy to get caught up in negative self-talk and make other people our focus—but the only person who can fill your cup is you! When we allow ourselves to feel successful at something that matters most to us, we begin to feel more energized and engaged with life again. This isn’t just about finding ways to “escape” stress—it's about finding activities that give us joy so that when we return from them (or even before), our bodies will be flooded with endorphins. So, take a deep breath, know that you’re not alone in this struggle, and get ready to heal your burnout!
